Hi I'm Claudia. I hate flying but I love to travel
and I love Habitat even more. I am excited about joining the Global
Village build in Zambia!!! This will be my ninth build. I've had
awesome GV experiences in Brasil, El Salvador, Vietnam, South Africa, Ghana,
Kenya, Ethiopia and Bali. I was born and raised on St. Croix in the U.S.
Virgin Islands, but I've called NYC my home for the last 25 years or so.
When I'm not building with Habitat, volunteering with my
sorority, zip lining or whitewater rafting; you can find me watching
reruns of Law & Order or murder mysteries on the ID channel. I also
moonlight as the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Bronx
Community College of The City University of New York. I am looking forward to
building and making a difference in Zambia and to having an awesome experience
with this team.

Lynne & Roger Vaughan
Lynne is mostly retired from project management, grant writing, education design, and curriculum development. She has not retired from baking, reading, biking, walking, gardening, mothering/grand mothering, volunteering, and being grateful for a wonderful life.
Roger, formerly a teacher, also worked remodeling homes, as a plumber, and as a property manager. Since retiring in ‘04 he has volunteered with several organizations here and abroad, discovering the joys of Habitat builds near our home in Napa California and with Lynne in Mongolia, Alaska . and South Africa.
We have two children, ages 41and 27, and two grandchildren, Ray, age 9 and Anya, age 5 . The picture is of us in 2013, on a BV build in Mongolia., and no, those were not our work clothes and hard hats.
Travel has long been our passion. Our recent discovery of combining it with GV builds has both enriched and recommitted us to seeing and interacting with people everywhere. This Zambia build will be Roger’s 66h trip to Africa, and Lynne’s fourth.

Elmaree Newson
After
working 40yrs. as a teacher, then high school guidance counselor, I retired a
few years ago. Now I take yoga and
Pilates classes, volunteer weekly at a local Healing Touch Center, and am an
avid member of two Toastmasters clubs.
I have two
adult sons, neither is married yet….so no grandchildren to babysit or coo over
– regretfully. Still hoping…
I enjoy
international travel and experiencing other cultures. Zambia will be my 13th GV trip –
others have included Vietnam, Fiji,
Argentina, Nepal and South Africa.
Strictly
pleasure trips have been to Kenya, Dubai, Cuba, Tibet, and Egypt among
others.

Kurt Newton
I spent my first 22 years in Minnesota. After Physical Therapy school I joined the US Army and actually got my first choice station in Colorado. I have spent most of the last 40+ years in Colorado. I married Amy in 1977. She and I loved mountain climbing,xc skiing and bicycling. We climbed 53 of Colorado's 54 14,000 ft peaks and hiked and climbed in Mexico, Europe, Ecuador and Nepal. In 1998 we built our own home in the foothills west of Trinidad, CO. In April 2008 I lost Amy to cancer. I am a retired Physical Therapist who now does a lot of hiking, xc skiing, pottery, woodworking, reading and birding. By Sept of 2013 I will have participated in 7 two week Habitat RV Caravaner builds in the US and in late January 2012 I was on my first Global Villages build in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. A great experience and hopefully the first of many to come. It was my first time in Southeast Asia since 1971 when I was stationed at a hospital in Viet Nam.
By April of 2016 I will have participated in 23 , two week builds with the Habitat RV Care-A-Vanner program in the US, four Global Village trips and one Fuler Build. All have been unique and great experiences. When you get governments and politics out of the way
people have many more similarities than differences. My last GV trip was to Kyrgyzstan in 2013 led by Roger. Looking forward to a great build in Zambia

I'm from Indianapolis Indiana and retired from a major pharmaceutical company where I was part of the HVAC & Engineering Team. I started up my own Heating Air-conditioning & Refrigeration / Plumbing business which I ran simultaneously during my career in corporate America. Since retiring I don’t get a break unless I leave town, and I love to do so whenever I can. Somehow I manage to do more than just work all the time and I provide support for my Grand Children in their school and sports activities. Along with that I sing in a great and awesome choir at my Church and play the bass guitar too sometimes as well. I do have some experience traveling abroad getting my first real experience in Viet Nam many years ago (1970-71), where I served in the US Army as a helicopter crew chief. I have always had a heart for children and there that compassion was intensified. Since those days I have traveled to the Islands many times for pleasure and work, have traveled to Spain for pleasure and went to the Holy Land on what I call my trip to edify my revelation of God’s Word. I made a mission trip to the Dominican Republic once to support a friend working there but I didn’t feel I was effective enough. I want to do more to help the under privileged in the World and I feel Habitat offers to me the avenue to do just that. I am really looking forward to the Orphans & Vulnerable Children program in Zsmbia. I traveled on my first Global Village trip to Malawi with Roger as Team Leader and hope to have an equally gratifying experience in Zambia
Emily Herson & Salil Mehta
Emily was born in the greater Washington DC area and moved to San
Francisco in early 2013. Emily works in
commercial real estate property management.
Salil was born in New Jersey but was raised in Northern California. Salil works in Finance.
In December
2013, Emily and Salil met at a local bar.
Accompanied by casual conversation and lighthearted games of slap jack
and thumb war, we began our relationship.
Over the ensuing months, the relationship blossomed and much travel has
been planned and completed, including several international trips. In May of 2015 while traveling in Bordeaux,
France, Emily and Salil became engaged and have begun planning a San Francisco
wedding in February 2016.
This will be
Emily’s second Habitat build – her first as a team leader in Romania. This will be Salil’s first Habitat build
though has long waited for a chance to participate in a build. Our participation is the second final part of
our honeymoon.
We look
forward to meeting each of you, and eagerly anticipate making a positive impact
in Zambia!
